(10:41 am ET) Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka said he wants to be the Opening Day starter this season.
Tanaka and CC Sabathia are believed to be manager Joe Girardi’s two options for the honor. Sabathia has said that he doesn’t care if he gets the call on Opening Day, Tanaka said he “absolutely” wants to pitch the opener, according to NJ.com’s Brendan Kuty.
Sabathia has started on Opening Day 11 times, including the last six years with the Yankees. Tanaka has done it once, while pitching in Japan.
Astros’ Evan Gattis (wrist) taking batting practice Sunday

(10:41 am ET) Astros catcher Evan Gattis will take live batting practice Sunday and could accelerate his rehab if all goes well, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Gattis said he felt no pain after taking some swings off a tee Friday, and an MRI revealed no damage to his right wrist. He has missed a week of action due to the injury.
Phillies’ Mario Hollands has same injury as Cliff Lee

(10:33 am ET) An MRI on Phillies pitcher Mario Hollands‘ throwing arm revealed bad news.
Hollands has a strain of the common flexor tendon. That’s the same injury that is threatening the career of Cliff Lee, according to the News Journal’s Meghan Montemurro.
The team will have Hollands and his MRI results evaluated by a doctor and come up with a treatment plan.
Braves’ Jace Peterson dealing with infected finger

(10:29 am ET) Braves second baseman Jace Peterson is suffering from an issue with his finger.
Peterson’s hand was stepped on during a game a few days ago, and the pinky on his throwing hand became infected.
Peterson said it wasn’t serious, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s David O’Brien. He’s been able to keep playing and made several plays in the field during Saturday’s game.
Peterson is hitting .113 this spring.
Mets’ Bobby Parnell feeling ‘really good’ after return to action

(10:25 am ET) Mets pitcher Bobby Parnell saw his first game action in nearly a year Saturday when he pitched in a minor-league intrasquad game and said Sunday that he felt “good soreness” but no ill effects from his Tommy John surgery, ESPNNewYork.com reports.
“I feel really good,” Parnell said.
Parnell is expected to pitch in his next game Wednesday, though he’s unsure whether it will be another minor-league appearance or his Grapefruit League debut. He is expected to open the season on the disabled list and should miss the first few weeks of the regular season if he remains on schedule.
Report: Orioles, Chris Tillman working on long-term extension

(10:15 am ET) The Orioles and representatives of pitcher Chris Tillman have continued to work on a long-term extension that would keep the pitcher in Baltimore past the 2017 season, the New York Post reports.
Tillman was eligible for arbitration for the first time this past offseason and agreed to a one-year deal worth $4.315 million. The two sides are likely to break off negotiations by the beginning of the regular season, per the report.
Tillman has put together two straight excellent seasons in the Orioles rotation, going 29-13 while tossing more than 200 innings each year.
Nationals’ Stephen Strasburg to throw long toss Sunday

Strasburg was scratched from Sunday’s scheduled start after spraining his left ankle in conditioning drills Friday. He said Sunday that the ankle is feeling better. Strasburg has surrendered two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings while striking out seven and walking two in two spring outings.
Blue Jays C Sean Ochinko re-assigned to minor-league camp

(10:06 am ET) Blue Jays catcher Sean Ochinko has been re-assigned to minor-league camp, leaving the team with 44 players left in major-league camp, the Toronto Star reports.
Ochinko doubled for his only hit of the spring in nine appearances, going 1 for 9 at the plate. He was just 17 for 80 across Double-A and Triple-A last season.
