The hoops showdown is upon us.
No, I’m not talking about the NCAA tournament, which tips off in earnest on Thursday. The real hoops showdown actually arrives on Wednesday night, featuring the Golden State Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks, owners of the NBA’s two top records.
The bond shared between these two teams is obvious: They both kill teams with 3s. With Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Kyle Korver leading the way, these two teams are ahead of the curve when it comes to the hidden value of the long-range shot and the spacing it provides. The Warriors have made a league-leading 39.5 percent of their 3-pointers, and the Hawks trail in second with a 38.3 percent conversion rate.
Defenses try to stop it and they can’t.
