Indians manager pulls great prank on Trevor Bauer after three-homer game
Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer had a bit of a rough start Tuesday. Remember the video of the Chicago Cubs three youngsters going back-to-back-to-back? Bauer was the pitcher who gave up all three bombs.
Following the game, Bauer showed a good sense of humor about the performance, tweeting out a joke about seeing his drone, which has been grounded by Major League Baseball, flying around the field.
Indians manager Terry Francona took it to a whole different level Wednesday, and even managed to involve the local police. During a team meeting, in which a Goodyear police officer is always present, Francona set his plan into action, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
The officer came into the meeting carrying three baseballs. He told the players, “I just wanted to return these three baseballs that disrupted traffic on Estralla Parkway at 2:20 p.m., 2:21 p.m. and 2:22 p.m. on Tuesday.”
The officer then walked over to Trevor Bauer and handed him the baseballs.
The clubhouse erupted in laughter.
Once again, Bauer posted the evidence for all to see.
Francona would later admit that he and bench coach Brad Mills were behind the prank. While Bauer could have been upset about the joke, Francona didn’t seem to think that was a concern.
I don’t know if we could have done that with Trevor a couple of years ago, but I think Trevor loved it. I hope we don’t do that every five days, but it was good.
Bauer should make his next spring start in the next couple of days. Here’s hoping it doesn’t result in the entire clubhouse laughing at him the day after.
