Report: Contract extension no sure thing for Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez will be in the final year of his contract in 2015, sources told FOX Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal. Gonzalez signed an extension last February, but the length of the deal was not announced.
Rosenthal suggests even if the Braves struggle in 2015, Gonzalez could land another contract extension. Gonzalez has the backing of former Braves manager Bobby Cox and team president John Schuerholz.
However, one source said an extension is unlikely until the team determines how Gonzalez fits in with the plans of new president of baseball operations John Hart.
Gonzalez is entering his fifth year with the Braves. He failed to make the playoffs in 2014 after doing so the previous two seasons. He is 358-290 and 1-4 in the playoffs with Atlanta.
