Nets’ Johnson playing through tendinitis
By Mike Mazzeo | ESPN.com
Brooklyn Nets swingman Joe Johnson revealed he has recently been playing through tendinitis.
“I’ve just got tendinitis real bad in my right knee and in my left ankle,” Johnson told Newsday following his team’s blowout loss Saturday night in Utah. “I’ve been playing with both of them and been pretty banged up for probably about the past month and a half or so. We don’t have time to have guys sit and rest, like some other teams do. We just don’t have the roster for that, so I just have to play through it.”
In 13 games during January, Johnson, 33, is shooting just 36.2 percent from the field and averaging 13.1 points in 36.7 minutes.
The Nets are currently without point guard Deron Williams, who has missed nine straight games due to a rib cartilage fracture. It is unknown when he will return. Reserve Mirza Teletovic was also lost for the season Friday due to blood clots in his lungs.
Therefore, there has been a heavier burden on Johnson to produce and keep gutting through his injuries because of the team’s lack of depth.
The Nets (18-26) have lost 10 of their past 12.
Johnson has missed just two games this season — both because of a severe stomach virus.
