Cole Whitt to drive full-time for Front Row in 2015
Front Row Motorsports announced Friday that Cole Whitt would drive the No. 35 car in the Sprint Cup Series in 2015.
Whitt will have sponsorship from Speed Stick in 10 races but will run the full season. He drove in 2014 for BK Racing and Swan Racing.
“This is an exciting time for Front Row Motorsports,” FRM owner Bob Jenkins said in a statement. “Adding Cole Whitt to our program, along with the support of the Speed Stick team, is another big step in our growth as a young team. We’re going to have a diverse mix of experience with our drivers, which, I think, is going to be a big benefit for everyone.”
Last season, Front Row fielded two full-time cars for David Ragan (No. 34) and David Gilliland (No. 38). No word if Whitt will change his name to David Cole Whitt to fit in, but our guess is that he won’t.
Whitt’s arrival at Front Row was teased in November by BK Racing co-owner Anthony Marlowe, who wished Whitt well in his move to FRM. Marlowe apologized for saying Whitt would drive the No. 34 car, which would mean that Ragan would be either out of a ride or in a new number.
Whitt was 31st in the standings in 2014 and had a best finish of 18th (twice, at Auto Club and Martinsville). Front Row won at Talladega in 2013 when Gilliland pushed Ragan to the win in the spring race.
Gilliland was 30th in the 2014 points while Ragan was 32nd.
Whitt moved to BK Racing after Swan Racing ceased operations in the spring. His crew chief will be Randy Cox, who crew chiefed for him in 2014.
