(1:58 pm ET) Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowksi is still not expecting Detroit to re-sign starting pitcher Max Scherzer, according to the New York Post.
“I would say no, probably not,” Dombrowski said Thursday when if he thought he would re-sign Scherzer.
“We’ve been in a situation where we’re pretty well set with our starting pitching. We’ve got five starters that we’re comfortable [with]. I guess you never tell what happens, but we’re not in any type of active pursuit of any other pitching right now.”
Scherzer, who made $15.525 million in 2014, has won 10-plus games in five straight seasons. He was an All-Star the last two seasons.
White Sox, Jeff Samardzija reach $9.8 million contract for 2015

(1:58 pm ET) The White Sox and pitcher Jeff Samardzija have avoided arbitration, agreeing to a $9.8 million contract prior to Friday’s deadline, reports CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.
The White acquired Samardzija from Oakland in December. Samardzija is coming off his first All-Star season in 2014. He spent most of his seven-year career with the Cubs before being traded to Oakland in July. He is 36-48 with a 3.85 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 222 career outings (99 starts).
O’s avoid arbitration with Matt Wieters, Chris Tillman, Brian Matusz

(1:38 pm ET) The Orioles have locked up catcher Matt Wieters, starter Chris Tillman and reliever Brian Matusz on Friday, avoiding arbitration, according to MASN Sports and CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.
Wieters will make $8.3 million and Matusz will make $3.2 million. Meanwhile, Tillman reached a $4.315 million settlement for 2015. He earned $546,000 last year.
Twins lock up Trevor Plouffe, Eduardo Nunez for 2015

(1:31 pm ET) The Twins have avoided arbitration with third baseman Trevor Plouffe, shortstop Eduardo Nunez, agreeing on 2015 salaries of $4.8 million and $1.025 million, respectively, according to St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Plouffe hit .258 with 14 home runs, 40 doubles and 80 RBI in 136 games in 2014. Nunez, a first-time arbitration qualifier, hit .250/.271/.382 with four homers, 24 RBI and nine stolen bases in 213 plate appearances.
Dodgers avoid arbitration with Kenley Jansen, Justin Turner

(1:26 pm ET) The Dodgers have avoided arbitration with closer Kenley Jansen and third baseman Justin Turner prior to Friday’s deadline, reports the Los Angeles Times. Jansen agreed to a $7.425 million salary for 2015, while Turner settled for $2.5 million.
Last season Jansen posted a 2.76 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 101:19 K:BB ratio in 65 1/3 innings in 2014.
Athletics, OF Josh Reddick avoid arbitration before Friday deadline

(1:17 pm ET) The Athletics and outfielder Josh Reddick have avoided arbitration with a one-year, $4.1 million contract, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman on Friday. He made $2.7 million last season.
Reddick hit .264/.316/.446 with 12 homers and 54 RBI over 363 at-bats in 2014. He has a career .245/.305/.431 slash line over his six years in the majors.
Nationals to pay SP Doug Fister an $11.4M salary for 2015

(1:13 pm ET) Nationals starting pitcher Doug Fister avoided arbitration Friday by agreeing to an $11.4 million salary for 2015, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. Fister, who was in his final year of arbitration and is set to become a free agent after the 2015 season, made $7.2 million in 2014.
Fister, who will turn 31 on Feb. 4, won a career-high 16 games in 2014 — his first season with the Nationals. He is 60-56 with a 3.34 ERA in six MLB seasons.
Blue Jays, P Marco Estrada agree to $2.505 million contract

(1:12 pm ET) The Blue Jays and pitcher Marco Estrada have avoided arbitration with a one-year, $2.505 million contract, according to the team’s official website on Friday.
Estrada was acquired by Toronto via trade in the offseason. He worked both as a starter and a reliever for the Brewers last season, making 18 starts and 21 relief appearances. He went 7-6 with a 4.38 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 127:44 K:BB ratio in 150 2/3 innings, pitching much better in relief than as a starter in 2014.
Angels, Fernando Salas settle at $1.37 million

(1:08 pm ET) The Angels and Fernando Salas have agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.37 million contract for 2015, avoiding arbitration, reports the Los Angeles Times. The reliever received $870,000 in 2014.
Salas went 5-0 with a 3.38 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP and 61:14 K:BB ratio over 58 2/3 innings last season.
