A sour Draymond Green throws grapes, gets under Seattle’s skin
In an appropriate response to Seattle Seahawks fans allegedly heckling the Carolina Panthers faithful in Stephen Curry’s family, Golden State Warriors teammate Draymond Green threw grapes in their direction.
As far as food fights go, things can get a lot worse than grapes, especially in Seattle, where throwing fish is somewhat of a sport in itself, so Green tossing a few tiny fruits in the direction of “The 12th Man” at the end of the Seawawks NFC Championship victory at CenturyLink Field on Saturday seems harmless.
TMZ Sports took the opportunity to sensationalize the story, slapping an “NBA’S DRAYMOND GREEN PELTS SEAHAWKS FANS WITH FOOD” headline on the video, but let’s allow Green to explain his side.
So, the grapes weren’t sour, then? Ba-dum ching.
Still, when Curry & Co. show up to one of the NFL’s loudest stadiums wearing Panthers garb and rooting comfortably from a private box, they should expect their share of ribbing. It comes with the territory.
Sure, the point guard’s wife and mother probably should have refrained from responding to the crowd, and Green would’ve been wise not to instigate the issue. But still — it was four grapes, folks.
We can add Seattle fans to a growing list of folks frustrated with Draymond Green, which also includes Kenneth Faried, Blake Griffin, LeBron James and Kevin Garnett. As Warriors teammate Klay Thompson recently told the San Jose Mercury News, “You don’t punk him. And he’ll always have your back.”
