3 Games: BOS, CLE, DAL, DEN, IND, LAC, LAL, MEM, MIA, MIN, OKC, POR, SAC, UTA
2 Games: CHA, PHX
1 Game: MIL, NYK
Point Guards
Jarrett Jack Nets 50% owned in Yahoo! leagues – Deron Williams is down and out with a broken rib and we don’t know when he’ll play again. Jack has racked up games in points and assists of 14 & 10, 15 & 4 and 20 & 10 in each of his last three and can also help with steals and threes. He’s going to get a ton of minutes as long as Williams is out and he is a must-add player.
Evan Turner Celtics 35% – Turner has been starting at point guard for the Celtics and is averaging 11.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 3-pointers over his last five games. Marcus Smart could eventually overtake him, but for now Turner should be owned in more leagues. He had nine points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and two steals on Friday, but hit just 3-of-15 shots.
Aaron Brooks Bulls 11% – Just as I was ready to post this column, news came down that Derrick Rose is out on Saturday and may have an MRI if his doctor doesn’t like what he sees after an examination. We’ve kind of been waiting for the other shoe to fall on Rose, so to speak, and this could go either way. If Rose is going to miss time going forward, Brooks (and Kirk Hinrich) are both going to be in line for a boost.
Elfrid Payton 47% – Payton is struggling with his shot and has hit just 5-of-19 shots in his last three games. Despite some duds, he’s still averaging 7.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.8 steals over his last five games, but his 38 percent shooting will leave a mark if you choose to roll with him.
Shane Larkin Knicks 3% – Larkin is getting some run for the pathetic Knicks, just like everyone else who is healthy on the team, and is averaging 6.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.6 steals and 0.8 3-pointers in 28 minutes over his last five games. He’s not a must-own player, but should definitely be on your radar.
Marcus Smart Celtics 36% – Smart is coming off the bench and is far from a must-own player, averaging 7.8 points, 3.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.8 3-pointers on 41 percent shooting over his last five games. He’s more of a stash in case he gets hot later in the season.
D.J. Augustin Pistons 10% – DJA went off for 19 points and five assists on Tuesday and then backed it up with 26 points and four 3-pointers on Wednesday, playing just 22 minutes in each game. He played 20 minutes on Friday and had just four points and five assists, and as long as the minutes are in the low 20s, he shouldn’t be owned, despite the occasional explosion. But as soon as Brandon Jennings goes down with an injury, DJA will become a hot pickup.
Shooting Guards
Robert Covington Sixers 56% – Covington had 20 points, seven rebounds, six steals and three 3-pointers on Friday and started at shooting guard. He’s averaging 15.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.8 3-pointers over his last five games, playing an average of 36 minutes, and I don’t need to say anymore here. Pick him up.
Kevin Martin Timberwolves 75% – He’s nearing a return and may have trouble reestablishing himself given the strong play of Shabazz Muhammad and Andrew Wiggins, but will still be worth owning. This was simply a “just in case” inclusion, as he’s owned in three out of four leagues.
Tim Hardaway Jr. Knicks 26% – Hardaway’s shot is still broken, but someone is going to have to score for the broken Knicks. He’s averaging 11.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 3-pointers over his last five games, shooting just 37 percent. He’s getting 28 minutes a game and if he ever gets hot, his value could shoot upward quickly.
Dion Waiters Thunder 39% – Waiters had just four points on 1-of-9 shooting in his OKC debut on Wednesday, but then hit 7-of-14 shots and a 3-pointer for 15 points and four steals on Friday. He’s going to be inconsistent, but the Thunder seem to be bent on making him relevant after trading for him.
J.R. Smith Cavaliers 58% – Like Waiters, Smith started slowly in Cleveland by missing all five of his shots and failing to score on Wednesday. Then he went off and hit 11-of-23 shots and three 3-pointers for 27 points in a whopping 42 minutes on Friday. Let’s remember that LeBron didn’t play in that game, and let’s also remember that Smith can score zero in a game just as easily as he can blow up for a big night. Inconsistency is his middle name.
Jodie Meeks Pistons 44% – Meeks had scored in double figures in eight straight games prior to Friday, when he hit just 3-of-12 shots for six points. He’s averaging 11.6 points and 1.4 3-pointers over his last five games, and as long as he’s fighting with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for minutes, it’s going to be tough for him to go off like he did on Dec. 30 when he had 34 points and nine 3-pointers.
Elijah Millsap Jazz 0% – Millsap makes the list because he played 30 minutes and had nine points, four boards, two steals, a block and three 3-pointers on Friday. The Jazz are really hurting at shooting guard and Millsap could continue to get some run. Just put him on your radar.

Small Forwards
Khris Middleton Bucks 28% – Middleton is on a nice streak and has ruined Jared Dudley, averaging 12.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.6 steals and 1.4 3-pointers in 27 minutes over his last five games. He’s worth grabbing for the steals and threes, and anything else you get out of him is gravy.
Matt Barnes Clippers 34% – My man Matty B got off to a brutal start this season, but is finally picking it up, averaging 13.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.6 blocks and 2.6 3-pointers over his last five games. He’s scored between 12 and 19 points in each of his last three games and is getting 28 minutes a night. The arrival of Tony Wroten in L.A. would hurt Barnes if it happens, but for now, he’s playing well enough to be picked up in any league.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Hornets 21% – MKG is suddenly hot for the Hornets, averaging 11.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists on 48 percent shooting. The bad news is that he doesn’t steal or hit 3-pointers, and is a poor free throw shooter. Finding a guy averaging a double-double off the wire is tough, but that’s exactly what MKG has been doing for the last couple weeks.
K.J. McDaniels Sixers 23% – McDaniels went back to the bench on Friday with Luc Mbah a Moute back in action and had just six points and a 3-pointer in 23 minutes. Prior to that, he played 30 and 32 minutes in two straight games and posted decent numbers. If the Sixers ever give in and just start him, you’ll want to be sure to grab him. And this just in…KJM is starting at power forward on Saturday!
Harrison Barnes Warriors 47% – Barnes is very inconsistent, but when he’s on, he tends to go nuts. He had 23 points, seven rebounds and five 3-pointers on Monday against the Thunder, but scored two points in the previous game, and then four points in the next one. He’s averaging 9.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.4 3-pointers over his last five games, but like I said, if you play him on the right night it can be a pleasant experience.
Gerald Henderson Hornets 18% – Henderson had his three-game streak of double-digit games stopped on Saturday when he had nine points, three boards and three assists in 25 minutes against the Knicks. He had played 34 or more minutes in his previous three games and is still averaging 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists over his last five games. The Hornets absolutely dismantled the Knicks on Sunday, so Henderson wasn’t really needed in the second half. He doesn’t hit threes or steal the ball, which is why he’s still owned in so few leagues, and will take a hit if we ever see Lance Stephenson in uniform again.
Solomon Hill Pacers 16% – Hill has been playing better for the banged up Pacers and is averaging 10.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 0.8 3-pointers over his last five games. Prior to Friday’s dud (4 points, 2-of-7 shooting), he had scored in double figures in three straight games, including a 21-point performance on Wednesday. Again, he’s not a must-own player, but is starting to make some noise again.
Power Forwards
Marreese Speights Warriors 31% – Even with the return of Andrew Bogut, Speights has stayed relevant, hitting double figures in the two games since Bogut’s return. And it probably would have been a much longer streak had he not been robbed at gunpoint hours before Monday’s game. He’s averaging 17.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks over his last five games, getting 24 minutes per game over that stretch. He may eventually cool off and go away, but since the Warriors need to keep Bogut healthy, it makes sense that they’ll keep giving him those minutes from here on in.
Quincy Acy Knicks 4% – Acy had 18 points and three 3-pointers on Saturday, but also had just one rebound. He’s averaging 28 minutes per game over his last five which has resulted in 12.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 3-pointers. Someone has to play for the Knicks, right?
John Henson Bucks 31% – Henson’s minutes are still too low for my liking, but he’s had some nice games lately while Larry Sanders (personal) and Ersan Ilyasova (concussion) have been out. I still don’t understand why Johnny O’Bryant is starting over him, but it is what it is. Henson is averaging 9.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks over his last five games in just 19 minutes a night, and if the minutes somehow increase, the production will follow.
Marvin Williams Hornets 5% – Williams is far from a must-own player, but has been decent lately, helped in part by the absence of Cody Zeller with a shoulder injury. Zeller was back on Saturday, but didn’t do anything, while Marvin had six points, five rebounds, two assists, four steals and a block. He’s usually good for a 3-pointer or two, but didn’t have one on Saturday. He’s averaging 8.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.8 3-pointers over his last five games, so he might be worth a look in real deep leagues.
Cleanthony Early Knicks 2% – Early raised some eyebrows with 16 points, six rebounds, two steals and a 3-pointer on Thursday, but backed it up with six points, two rebounds and two 3-pointers on 2-of-9 shooting in 30 minutes on Saturday. But he’s gotten 22-plus minutes in four of his last five games and is a guy to keep a close eye on. Man, the Knicks are bad.
Jason Smith Knicks 1% – Smith has been starting and is averaging 9.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks over his last five games. So there’s that.
Centers
Mason Plumlee Nets 65% – The Nets are not in love with Brook Lopez and Plumlee continues to start, and is averaging 13.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 1.4 blocks over his last five games. He should be owned in all leagues.
Rudy Gobert Jazz 52% – Gobert has been loving life without Enes Kanter around, but that’s about to change with Kanter probable for Saturday. Gobert is averaging 10.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals and a whopping 5.0 blocks over his last five games, getting about 32 minutes a night. Kanter’s return is going to hurt, no doubt, but I’d still be willing to hang onto Gobert until we see what happens here.
Jusuf Nurkic Nuggets 41% – Nurkic bummed out a lot of owners when he celebrated the departure of Timofey Mozgov with eight points, four rebounds and two blocks on Wednesday. Minutes are still a concern with Nurkic, as he’s gotten between 21 and 23 of them in each of his last five games. But despite the low run, he’s still averaging 11.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 3.4 blocks over his last five games while shooting 51 percent. Minutes or not, he’s a must-own player.
Hassan Whiteside Heat 13% – Whiteside is one of my favorite pickups right now, mainly because I know he’s available in many leagues and he’s kind of crushing for the Heat. He’s averaging 9.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.2 blocks over his last five games and those numbers go up to 11.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.7 blocks over his last three. Who knows how long he can keep it going, but I’m willing to grab him in order to find out. The scary thing is that he’s averaging just 21 minutes per game over his last five, and if he ever gets 30 a night, look out.
Alex Len Suns 22% – Len is struggling to score, but is racking up some serious blocks for the Suns. He’s averaging 6.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.6 blocks over his last five games, which includes the nights when he had 5, 5 and 6 of them in single games. His scoring may scare folks away, but if you need blocks, here they are.
Timofey Mozgov Nuggets 55% – Mozgov had nine points, eight rebounds and a block in his Cavs’ debut on Friday, playing 27 minutes. He appears to be running out of gas in Denver, but a move to Cleveland should do wonders for his play. I’m not saying he’s going to blow up, with LeBron, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving around, but David Blatt loves him and the Cavs need a center. Mike Gallagher can’t stand the thought of owning Mozzy, but I’m actually good with him.
Chris Kaman Blazers 16% – Kaman is finally starting for Portland and is averaging 8.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks over his last five games. His minutes are still very shaky (20 a night) as they try to keep him healthy, but he’s been productive in his limited run.
Tyler Zeller Celtics 30% – Zeller played just 16 minutes against the Pacers on Friday, and the same was true against the Hornets on Monday. But his other three games last week saw him getting between 25 and 31 minutes. Overall, he’s averaging 10.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.4 blocks over his last five. Those numbers aren’t great and the fact the Celtics have so many centers in the house doesn’t do him any favors.
Zaza Pachulia Bucks 23% – Larry Sanders is basically AWOL and John Henson can’t seem to find his way off of Jason Kidd’s bench. Meanwhile, Pachulia is quietly averaging 10.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals in 27 minutes a night. He doesn’t block many shots and has just one in his last five games, but if you can live without them, it makes sense to own him.
Cole Aldrich Knicks 18% – Aldrich hit just 1-of-7 shots for two points on Saturday, but did have 12 rebounds and two blocks in his 27 minutes. He’s averaging 7.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks over his last five games. Those aren’t great numbers, but again, he’s going to get minutes at center for the Knicks the rest of the way.
