Darin Erstad has a great reaction to his one Hall of Fame vote
First things first, yes, Darin Erstad — the former Los Angeles Angels outfielder — got a single Hall of Fame vote this year.
The results of the annual Baseball Writers Association of America ballot were announced Tuesday, with Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz and Craig Biggio earning enshrinement in Cooperstown. If you looked all the way down the ballot, you’d find Erstad’s name near the bottom with a “1” next to it.
Erstad was pretty good, having earned three Gold Gloves and twice being selected an All-Star, but no rational baseball writer would consider him a Hall of Famer.
There was a slight bit of outrage about Erstad’s one vote, because it was Hall of Fame Outrage Day, of course. That’s unavoidable whenever a player such as Erstad gets a token vote. (We don’t know who voted for him, by the way).
Credit to Erstad, he had a great Twitter response about this one vote:
Erstad, as you might be able to tell from his profile pic (and from his being on the radar of famed Twitterer @FauxPelini), is the baseball coach at the University of Nebraska these days.
Maybe that one Hall of Fame vote will help him with recruiting? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
