College football predictions: Big 12 in line to have One True Bowl Champion – NewsOK.com
The Big 12 had a rough Monday — 0-3 in bowls, including bellcows Oklahoma and Texas getting routed 71-13 by the Ken Hatfield/Danny Ford dance team of Clemson and Arkansas.
The Big 12 has to sweep its remaining four games, just to have a winning record. Seems just as likely the Big 12 could get swept and go 0-7.
Or maybe the Big 12 could win one of its final four, finish 1-6 in bowls and rebrand itself as ONE TRUE BOWL CHAMPION.
Anyway, the pressure’s on TCU and Baylor to come through in New Year’s bowl showdowns — the Frogs against Ole Miss in the Peach on Eve, the Bears against Michigan State in the Cotton on Day.
Cotton Bowl, Michigan State vs. Baylor: Bears 39-31. Excellent matchup for Cotton in its inaugural return to the major bowl lineup.
Peach Bowl, Ole Miss vs. TCU: Horned Frogs 29-24. Sorry, it’s going to take awhile to get used to the Peach Bowl as a major bowl.
Fiesta Bowl, Boise State vs. Arizona: Wildcats 35-32. Doesn’t smack of a major bowl, does it?
Alamo Bowl, Kansas State vs. UCLA: Wildcats 27-16. Big 12 might need this one to save face in the post-season.
Cactus Bowl, Oklahoma State vs. Washington: Cowboys 26-24. Hope OSU fares better in the desert against Chris Petersen than did the Sooners.
Sugar Bowl, Alabama vs. Ohio State: Crimson Tide 23-20. Bama is living large, drawing a third-team quarterback in the national semifinals.
Rose Bowl, Oregon vs. Florida State: Ducks 35-22. Underrated matchup, if that’s possible. The last two Heisman Trophy winners, playing in a national semifinal. Talk about history.
Orange Bowl, Mississippi State vs. Georgia Tech: Bulldogs 26-14. Seems more like a Peach Bowl to me.
Outback Bowl, Wisconsin vs. Auburn: Tigers 37-27. Has any team’s luster fallen more with one game than Wisconsin’s?
Citrus Bowl, Minnesota vs. Missouri: Gophers 20-19. Sort of an odd matchup. More like an 8-9 game in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Gator Bowl, Iowa vs. Tennessee: Volunteers 24-22. I think this game is actually called the TaxSlayer Bowl, but there are some lines I refuse to cross.
Armed Forces Bowl, Pittsburgh vs. Houston: Panthers 27-26. Just what every bowl wants — two interim coaches.
Birmingham Bowl, Florida vs. East Carolina: Pirates 21-19. When you think Oklahoma football is a mess, you always can look at Florida and feel better.
GoDaddy Bowl, Toledo vs. Arkansas State: Rockets 34-30. Wonder what the weather’s like in Mobile this time of year?
Last week: 7-7. Season: 471-168.
