Report: Yanks paying for slain cops’ kids’ school
On Saturday, two NYPD officers — Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos — were ruthlessly murdered in Brooklyn. This image captures the tragic aftermath:
Surely, there’s no consoling the families of the slain officers right now, but consider this a bit of good news, courtesy of Bill Madden and Teri Thomspon of the New York Daily News:
For 32 years, [George] Steinbrenner’s Yankee Silver Shield Foundation has provided for the education of the children of New York City police officers, firemen and Port Authority employees who died in the line of duty, and will do so for the family of NYPD officer Rafael Ramos, gunned down by a cold-blooded killer Saturday along with his partner, Wenjian Liu.
As the Daily News notes, Officer Ramos has two sons, one presently in college, and Officer Liu had no children. Needless to say, this is a very good turn by the Yankees, albeit one that should never be necessary.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families of Officer Liu and Officer Ramos.
