NFL picks against the spread, Week 16: All road warriors – Niners Nation
I’m back with my Week 16 NFL picks against the spread. We are going entirely road teams this week. I’m sure this will end well.
Much like the San Francisco 49ers, I too am playing out the string with my LVH SuperContest picks. I put together a fairly mediocre 2-2-1 performance last week, and now I’m just looking to finish with some kind of win streak. There is no draft value to losing, so maybe I can just finish strong to build momentum for next year. I’m not really holding my breath, but we’ll see.
The 49ers are playing Saturday evening, and given that they have nothing to play for other than pride, so I decided not to include them in my picks. They are a one-point favorite, but does anybody honestly think they can predict how it will play out for them? There is this notion that with no pressure, maybe they get things going in the right direction on offense. I suppose anything is possible, but this offense has not shown us enough to think it will be remotely consistent. The 49ers certainly can win this game, but I have no idea if they actually will. It will be particularly fascinating to see how the defense performances with even more starters sidelined.
Just a reminder, the folks at our partner site, OddsShark have staked me in a pick ’em contest in Las Vegas. I pick five games each week against the spread, taking on over 1,400 people. The top 30 win money. I will not be in the top 30. If you are looking to figure out some wagers for Sunday (something I would NEVER encourage), check out the OddsShark betting trends page.
For Week 16, I decided to go with all road games. I should not be overly enthusiastic, but why not mix it up? I went with the Detroit Lions in a must-win game against Jimmy Clausen. They’ve also gone 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games against the Bears. I went with the Ravens over the Texans thanks to the potential start of Case Keenum at quarterback. I went with the Bills over the Raiders because even with that win over San Francisco and a short week win over the Chiefs, the Raiders are not good at all. I think the Bills defense will prove key in this one. And I grabbed the Giants and Falcons. The Saints used to be great at home, now they’re scuffling along, having failed to cover in five of their last six games. I’ll stick with the Falcons in that.
Detroit Lions (-6.5) over CHICAGO BEARS
Baltimore Ravens (-5.5) over HOUSTON TEXANS
Buffalo Bills (-5.5) over OAKLAND RAIDERS:
New York Giants (+4.5) over ST. LOUIS RAMS
Atlanta Falcons (+6.5) over NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
