Pelicans’ Davis exits with chest contusion

NEW ORLEANS — Anthony Davis has left Friday night’s game against Cleveland with a chest contusion and team officials say he won’t return.
Davis played only seven minutes, scoring eight points and grabbing one rebound, before he appeared to take an elbow to the chest while jostling for position during a free throw by Cleveland’s Kevin Love.
Davis, who entered the game averaging 25.1 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.9 blocks, did not return in the first half.
Despite Davis’ absence, the Pelicans managed to take a 89-76 lead through three quarters, thanks in large part to Tyreke Evans‘ 25 points and Ryan Anderson‘s 19 points, including five 3-pointers.
LeBron James, returning from a one-game absence because of a sore left knee, scored 36 in the first three quarters.
