Chris Bassitt giving away his White Sox stuff after trade to A’s
We often hear traded or released baseball players say they’re ready to move on. That the past is the past, and they’re one-hundred percent focused on the future, wherever that might lead them.
For pitcher Chris Bassitt though, it’s more than just lip service. After being traded by the Chicago White Sox to the Oakland A’s in Monday’s Jeff Samardzija blockbuster, he’s really ready to leave his former organization behind, and the beneficiaries of this break up will actually be White Sox fans.
Though we can’t help but picture Bassitt cleaning out his closet and tossing his White Sox gear in the front yard like an angry ex-significant other, he’s obviously being much more cordial following the break up.
With over three years of inventory, beginning with the 2011 draft when Bassitt was selected in the 16th round, we’re guessing he has enough hats, shirts, jackets, socks, bags, balls and maybe even bats to make all of his followers happy. Some of it will even be Major League worn, since Bassitt made his debut on Aug. 30 and ended up appearing in six games.
Line up, folks, Christmas is coming early thanks to Chris Bassitt.
It’s obviously a unique way to react to a trade, but it also seems like a healthy way to channel potential anger and disappointment in a positive way. We may even have a trendsetter here. And even if he isn’t, Chris Bassitt will at worst be the guy who won over more White Sox fans immediately after they traded him than he did while wearing their uniform.
There are worse distinctions to have, we assure you.
