Saints, Panthers fight; Williams ejected for punches
The New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers are embroiled in a heated playoff race here. No joke.
Those emotions boiled over on the field as the Panthers took a shocking 17-0 first-quarter lead over the Saints on Sunday.
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton scored a touchdown run to make the score 16-0 prior to the extra point, and Newton celebrated the TD by appearing to taunt Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan, for a little Cam-on-Cam action.
Jordan took exception to the celebration and got in Newton’s face. Newton walked away, did his patented Superman celebration and was pushed from behind by Saints linebacker Curtis Lofton.
Commence brawl, with several players from each team involved.
Both teams went nuts in the end zone, and things really got heated. Lofton was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. So was Panthers tight end Brandon Williams, who was ejected for throwing a punch.
