Mariners launch clever promotion after Nelson Cruz signing
You’ve been warned, Seattle. Nelson Cruz is officially in town after signing a four-year, $57 million contract on Thursday, and according to the Mariners, that means you’re no longer safe parking your car outside Safeco Field.
In fact, the Mariners don’t think you’re safe parking anywhere within the city limits.
That’s right, Seattle has been declared a ‘Nelson Cruz Home Run Zone.’ But don’t worry, no windshields have been damaged. At least not yet. This is just a part of a clever promotion the Mariners are running to create some offseason buzz and perhaps even bring awareness to the product.
And really, who better to base that promotion around than Cruz? He’s the man of the hour right now. Coming off a league-leading 40 home runs in 2014, to go along with 108 RBIs and an .859 OPS, he’s the compliment they’ve been looking for to go along with Robinson Cano, last season’s big signing, and Kyle Seager, whom they locked up with a seven-year, $100 million contract.
Also cool, those lucky enough to have their car “struck” by this promotion apparently win a pair of tickets to a Mariners game in 2015.
They’re telling you to stay away, but the closer you are the better chance you have to experience Nelson Cruz’s immense power first hand, and for free no less.
Reverse psychology at its finest. Well played, Seattle.
