(3:48 pm ET) The Yankees have won the Andrew Miller Sweepstakes, CBSSports.com Insider Jon Heyman has confirmed. The YES Network originally reported that the team has signed the free agent left-handed reliever to a four-year deal totaling $36 million.
Miller was lights-out for Boston and the playoff-bound Orioles in 2014. He yielded just 33 hits in 62 1/3 innings with 17 walks and 103 strikeouts.
The signing of Miller might preclude the Yankees from bringing back free agent closer David Robertson. But Miller and 2014 breakthrough reliever Dellin Betances will provide a powerful 1-2 punch in the bullpen if they continue to perform as well as they did last year.
Indians give OF Destin Hood a shot

(3:39 pm ET) The Indians have signed outfielder Destin Hood to a minor league deal. Hood performed particularly well in the Washington organization against left-handers, against whom the Indians have struggled.
Hood compiled a .294/.344/.482 stat line with 10 home runs in 84 games for Triple-A Syracuse last season.
RHP Anthony Bass leaves Astros for free agency

(3:18 pm ET) Right-hander Anthony Bass has elected free agency over a Triple-A assignment by the Astros. Bass, who dealt with an intercostal strain last season, managed a 1-1 record and 6.33 ERA in 21 relief appearances for Houston.
Dodgers add Ryan Lavarnway, designate Drew Butera

Lavarnway was limited to 10 at-bats last season due to wrist surgery, rehab assignment and stretch in the minors.
Report: Giants sign trio of minor free agents

(2:13 pm ET) The Giants have signed outfielder Justin Maxwell, right-hander Cory Gearrin and southpaw Nik Turley to free agent contracts, Baseball America has reported.
Maxwell managed just six hits in 40 at-bats for Kansas City in 2014. Gearrin lost the season to elbow surgery while Turley spent the year in the Yankees minor league system and has yet to pitch in the big leagues.
Nationals’ Jayson Werth to serve 10 days in jail for reckless driving

(1:44 pm ET) A Washington, D.C. judge found Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth guilty Friday of reckless driving and sentenced him to 10 days in jail, but will likely only serve five, the Washington Post reports. Werth was driving a 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 when he was pulled over for driving 105 mph in a 55 mph zone in Fairfax County on July 6. His attorney is expected appeal the ruling.
Report: Braves OF Nick Markakis leaning toward neck surgery

(12:37 pm ET) Newly-acquired Braves outfielder Nick Markakis is leaning toward opting for surgery to repair a bulging disc in his neck, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.
Braves were aware of the injury, and prior to signing Markakis to a four-year, $44 million deal, members of the front office viewed a report from an independent specialist who evaluated him in the offseason. If Markakis opts for surgery, he will need approximately 12 weeks of recovery and should be on track to be ready come opening day.
Ryan Dempster hangs it up, joins Cubs’ front office as assistant

(12:18 pm ET) The Cubs announced pitcher Ryan Dempster has signed a one-day contract with the team. Dempster, 37, will retire as a Cub and join Chicago’s front office as a special assistant to president of baseball operations Theo Epstein, reports the Chicago Tribune on Friday.
He spent nine seasons with the Cubs, registering a 3.88 ERA, with 62 wins and 87 saves over 358 appearances (138 starts). Dempster did not pitch in 2014 and finishes his career with two All-Star appearances, a 132-133 record and a 4.35 ERA in 579 appearances (351 starts).
Yanks land Didi Gregorius in three-team swap with Tigers, D-Backs

(11:17 am ET) The Yankees, Diamondbacks and Tigers have finalized a three-way deal that will send shortstop to Didi Gregorius New York, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports.
Gregorius, 24, is now poised to succeed recently retired Derek Jeter at shortstop for the Yankees. The 24-year-old hit .226 with five triples, six home runs, nine doubles and 27 RBI in 80 games.
The Tigers will receive pitcher Shane Greene from the Yankees, while the Diamondbacks will land pitcher Robbie Ray and infield prospect Domingo Leyba from the Tigers. Greene, 26, registered a 3.24 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP and 81:29 K:BB ratio over 78 2/3 innings of work during his 2014 rookie campaign. Ray, 23, made nine appearances (six starts) in his first season in the majors. He finished 1-4 with a 8.16 ERA, a 1.88 WHIP and 19:11 K:BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings.

(10:38 am ET) The Yankees are closing in on a three-team trade with the Tigers and Diamondbacks that would land them Didi Gregorius from Arizona, Sweeny Murti of WFAN in New York reports Friday.
The deal would give Detroit pitcher Shane Greene and Arizona pitcher Robbie Ray.
With the retirement of Derek Jeter, Gregorius will likely take over at shortstop for the Yankees, if the deal is finalized. The 24-year-old hit .226 with five triples, six home runs, nine doubles and 27 RBI in 80 games.
