Adam Jones not too happy about Nick Markakis leaving Orioles
is gone, signing with the Seattle Mariners as a free agent. And now, another big piece of the Baltimore Orioles’ ALCS team is leaving, as Nick Markakis agreed to a four-year contract Wednesday with the Atlanta Braves.
Nelson CruzAs Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan wrote when breaking the news, Markakis seemed like a sure thing to re-sign with the Orioles at the start of the offseason. The Orioles couldn’t get the deal done, then the Braves swooped in and lured him away.
The difference in the two offers to Markakis is reportedly about $4 million, not a huge sum of money. Adam Jones, the Orioles’ star centerfielder, was none too pleased with this turn of events. The two of them have patrolled the Orioles outfield together since 2008, but no longer.
Jones tweeted the following shortly after the Markakis news broke. Note the eight exclamation points. Eight exclamation points usually don’t indicate calm and collected, not even on Twitter.
Sure we want your opinion, Adam. And by not giving it to us, you pretty much gave it to us.
