Miss. State bans starting safety Cox after arrest

Cox was arrested at the scene of a reported burglary, charged with aggravated domestic violence and jailed.

Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Brett Watson said deputies responded to a burglary call on Rocky Road in the Aspen Heights apartment complex at about 3 a.m. Friday. He said upon arrival, deputies found a female victim with an injury to her head. Watson would not identify the victim.
Watson said deputies arrested Cox, a 21-year-old West Point native, at the scene on suspicion of burglary of a dwelling and aggravated domestic violence and booked him into Oktibbeha County Jail.
According to the Daily News, a school spokesperson confirmed Cox’s arrest and indefinite suspension on Friday morning. Cox, a senior starter at free safety, joined the Bulldogs in 2013 as a highly-rated junior college prospect from East Mississippi CC. He has 21 tackles and one interception on the season.
Mississippi State will play its final home game of the season, against Vanderbilt, on Saturday. The contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff and the Bulldogs are favored by more than four touchdowns.
