Week 12 fantasy football rankings: Quarterback
Below are this week’s QB rankings and tiers based on a player’s matchup, talent, offensive role and recent performance. Still have a tough start/sit question? Ask us anytime on Twitter @FantasySourceFB, or stop by our Sunday chats from 11 a.m. ET until kickoff on Facebook!
FIVE STAR
1. Aaron Rodgers, Packers @ Vikings. Rodgers is simply the best QB in football right now.
2. Andrew Luck, Colts vs. Jaguars. Luck will take out his frustration on a poor Jags defense.
3. Peyton Manning, Broncos vs. Dolphins. The matchup is tough, but nobody expects Manning to have two clunkers in a row.
4. Jay Cutler, Bears vs. Buccaneers. We’d advise against watching Cutler play as he does a lot of annoying stuff, but he’s been a fairly reliable option for fantasy owners in 2014.
5. Tom Brady, Patriots vs. Lions. Brady will have his hands full against a tough Lions defense, but he should be fine as long as he feeds Gronk.
6. Drew Brees, Saints vs. Ravens. We have the formula for Brees to have more success this week: Give your top weapon more than three targets.
FOUR STAR
7. Philip Rivers, Chargers vs. Rams. Rivers and the Chargers stunk it up against the Raiders, but they should be able to bounce back against the Rams, who are unlikely to have another performance like last week when they shut down Peyton Manning.
8. Matt Ryan, Falcons vs. Browns. Ryan isn’t having a great season, but he’s still a high-end fantasy QB.
9. Russell Wilson, Seahawks vs. Cardinals. Wilson has thrown for under 200 yards in the Seahawks’ last four games, and they’ve gone 3-1 over that span, so it’s not as if there’s a need to change up. It helps that he’s averaged 89 yards rushing over the last two games though.
10. Tony Romo, Cowboys @ Giants
THREE STAR
11. Mark Sanchez, Eagles vs. Titans. Sanchez’s fantasy numbers were better than his real-life stats thanks to 346 yards and two TDs, but we still don’t like him as a high-end option. With that said, the Titans don’t present a scary matchup.
12. Ryan Tannehill, Dolphins @ Broncos. Tannehill has another tough matchup, but he’s made a habit of rising to the occasion this season.
13. Matthew Stafford, Lions @ Patriots. Maybe this guy just isn’t anything more than an average quarterback. It’s probably time we consider that possibility.
TWO STAR
14. Colin Kaepernick, 49ers vs. Redskins. Kaepernick hasn’t been particularly impressive this season, but he’ll be facing a team that just got torched by Josh McCown and the Bucs.
15. Andy Dalton, Bengals @ Texans. Which Dalton shows up this week?
16. Josh McCown, Buccaneers @ Bears. Just keep throwing to Mike Evans.
17. Eli Manning, Giants vs. Cowboys. He probably won’t throw another five INTs, but it’s still not like we can trust him.
18. Kyle Orton, Bills vs. Jets. Orton had a rough outing against the Dolphins, but he’s been a solid fill-in overall, and the matchup against the Jets is nice.
19. Brian Hoyer, Browns @ Falcons. Hoyer hasn’t been great, but the Falcons present a great matchup.
ONE STAR
20. Joe Flacco, Ravens @ Saints
21. Robert Griffin III, Redskins @ 49ers. Bad play + bad matchup = leave him on your bench.
22. Ryan Mallett, Texans vs. Bengals. The Texans didn’t put too much on Mallett’s plate in his first start with the team, and they will probably employ a similar game-plan against the Bengals. He’s a desperation play.
23. Zach Mettenberger, Titans @ Eagles. Look elsewhere for your Week 12 QB.
24. Alex Smith, Chiefs @ Raiders. Smith only has three total touchdowns over the last three weeks and has thrown for fewer than 200 yards in each of the last three games. He’s not a good starting option.
25. Michael Vick, Jets @ Bills. There’s really no reason to be desperate enough to start Vick at this point in the season.
ZERO STAR
26. Shaun Hill, Rams @ Chargers. Hill may be better than Austin Davis, but that’s not saying much.
27. Drew Stanton, Cardinals @ Seahawks. We’re not trusting Stanton, especially in Seattle.
28. Derek Carr, Raiders vs. Chiefs
29. Blake Bortles, Jaguars @ Colts
30. Teddy Bridgewater, Vikings vs. Packers
