By the Numbers: Week 11’s Interesting Stats
Monday, November 17, 2014
You could have given me 1,000,000 guesses as to which players would lead their respective positions in fantasy points in Week 11, and I still wouldn’t have been even close. Aaron Rodgers’ domination at quarterback wasn’t surprising, but he was joined by running back Jonas Gray, wide receiver Mike Evans, and tight end Coby Fleener as the top-scoring players in Week 11. Gray has played in four NFL games, Evans is a rookie wide receiver on a poor offense, and Fleener is arguably the second-best tight end on his own team.

Fantasy football is weird. Here’s a look at five more interesting stats from Week 11.
5: Number of games in which Aaron Rodgers hasn’t posted a 120-plus passer rating
I detailed Rodgers’ ridiculous 2014 efficiency last week, and he continued his success in Week 11 with a final line of 341/3/0 on just 33 attempts. The 120.3 passer rating Rodgers posted against the Eagles was amazingly just his fifth-best mark on the season.
Over the past three games, Rodgers has averaged 358 yards, 3.3 touchdowns, and 0.3 picks per game.
4.4: Fantasy points per target (PPR) for Mike Evans
There was good reason to suspect that rookie wide receiver Mike Evans would be a stud in the NFL, but few could have envisioned it happening so quickly. With seven catches for 209 yards and two scores on Sunday against the Redskins, Evans scored over 4.4 fantasy points for every target he received.
Evans was efficient on a per-route basis, too, scoring 1.48 points for every route that he ran, according to Pro Football Focus. Only one other player (A.J. Green) was even above 1.00 points per route.
Evans is on pace for 82 catches, 1,412 yards, and 12 touchdowns.
0.26: Points per route for Julio Jones
It’s time to be concerned with the skill position players in Atlanta because there’s something seriously wrong with the Falcons’ offense. We know that Jones is an elite receiver, but he managed only 0.26 PPR points for every route he ran on Sunday, which ranked him near the bottom of the league.
The number is especially concerning because Jones was one of 13 receivers to see at least 10 targets in Week 11. Jones managed only six catches for 59 yards—5.9 yards per target. The 0.26 points per route was the lowest for anyone that ranked in the top 25 in targets.
1: Career touchdowns per game for running back Jonas Gray
Okay, so this stat is a little misleading since Gray didn’t see his first NFL carry until mid-October of this season. He hasn’t been on the radar of a lot of fantasy owners because he’s used in a limited role in New England. Well, he was, anyway, until the Pats gave Gray the ball 38 times on Sunday night, allowing him to gallop for 199 yards and four touchdowns.
It’s always difficult to determine how the Patriots will deploy their backs, but Gray is going to have value as long as New England continues to get up big on opponents, allowing the 5’9”, 223-pound back to wear down defenses late in games.
12.2: Average fantasy points (standard) of Week 11’s top five tight ends
With the early ankle injury to Julius Thomas and relatively quiet games from Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski, it was a down week for tight ends. Coby Fleener led all tight ends with 144 yards on Sunday night, but he failed to find the end zone. Gronk was actually second in points, but he didn’t light up the scoreboard with his final stat line of 4/71/1.
Actually, things were so dire at the tight end position in Week 11 that Jermaine Gresham, Garrett Graham, Rhett Ellison, Tony Moeaki, and Luke Wilson all ranked in the top 10 in points. Ellison and Moeaki had eight total receiving yards.
