(9:22 am ET) Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano was ruled out for the remainder of the Japan Series after suffering a non-displaced fracture of the pinkie toe on his right foot during the eighth inning of Saturday’s game against Samurai Japan.
Cano was taken to a local hospitals for X-rays immediately after being hit by a pitch, which revealed the fracture. He will be sidelined for approximately three to four weeks before resuming baseball activities in mid-December, a source told MLB.com.
In his first season with the Mariners after signing a 10-year, $240 million contract, Cano posted a .314/.382/.454 slash line to go along with 14 home runs, 82 RBI and a career-high 10 stolen bases in 595 at-bats. He is expected to be fully recovered for spring training.
Report: Rays to receive Justin Williams, Andrew Velazquez

The 19-year-old Williams hit .351/.403/.467 over 320 at-bats. He did not appear above Class A. Velazquez, 20, hit .290/.367/.428 over 623 at-bats in Class A last season.
Rays pitcher Jeremy Hellickson headed to Diamondbacks

Hellickson had a rough season after shoulder surgery delayed his debut until July. Over 63 2/3 innings, he posted a 4.52 ERA. The Rays are receiving outfielder Justin Williams and shortstop Andrew Velazquez, according to azcentral.com. After two and half strong seasons to begin his career, Hellickson has posted a 5.00 ERA over the past two years.
Torii Hunter confirms he probably won’t be back with Tigers

The 39-year-old outfielder thanked Detroit fans on his Instagram page, saying he had a great time playing for the Tigers. He added, “I’m going to miss you guys.” Hunter said he would see where his career goes from here. Hunter hit .286/.319/.446 over 549 at-bats.
Dodgers’ Dan Haren may retire if dealt

Haren’s name has come up in trade talks, but it’s unclear if he wants to play outside of Los Angeles, his hometown. Haren posted a 4.02 ERA over 186 innings last year.

Victor Martinez says return to Detroit was his first choice

(11/14/2014) Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez said returned to Detroit was always his first choice, according to mlive.com.
Martinez reportedly pulled general manager Dave Dombrowski aside late in the season to express his desire to remain a Tiger. Dombrowski confirmed the two sides had the conversation, but said he wanted to wait and see how the season concluded before negotiating a deal.
Owner Mike Ilitch also felt strongly about retaining Martinez. Ilitch told Martinez, “Victor, you had a fantastic year. You displayed great sportsmanship, you never seem to lose your cool and I’m going to take care of you next year.”
Martinez brushed off questions about how many other teams attempted to sign him during his press conference. He said he was “just happy to finish my career here in Detroit.”
