The 10-man rotation, starring the Spurs’ moral authority
A look around the league and the Web that covers it. It’s also important to note that the rotation order and starting nods aren’t always listed in order of importance. That’s for you, dear reader, to figure out.
C: GQ and 48 Minutes of Hell. Bethlehem Shoals thinks about the destabilizing effect that the San Antonio Spurs’ commitment to rest can have on other teams and the rest of the league, while Caleb Saenz argues that the Spurs fulfill their commitment to their peers while still doing everything “in service to [their] players and their followers.”
PF: Liberty Ballers. Jake Pavorsky on the Philadelphia 76ers’ persistent problems with the pick-and-roll, one of many reasons why they were so fundamentally destroyed by the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night.
[Yahoo Sports Fantasy Basketball: Sign up and join a league today!]
SF: Regressing. A smart and skeptical look at the sorts of economic estimate reports that make claims like LeBron James returning to the Cavaliers will give Cleveland a $500 million boost: “Any money spent by local residents at Cavs games is money not spent elsewhere in the local economy.”
SG: Mavs Outsider Report. Bobby Karalla takes a look under the hood of the Dallas Mavericks’ league-leading offense and finds that Rick Carlisle’s club is operating under a pretty simple framework when it comes to tempo and shot selection: “seven seconds or Dirk.” (Seems like a good framework to me.)
PG: Waiting for Next Year. Will Gibson on how Kevin Love creates contact and gets himself to the free throw line.
6th: SLC Dunk. Amar’s got 10 reasons why, despite his slow start and early season shooting slump, Utah Jazz point guard Trey Burke is going to be just fine.
7th: CBSSports.com. Zach Harper on how the Minnesota Timberwolves are focusing their development work with No. 1 draft pick Andrew Wiggins.
8th: Mavs Moneyball. Kate Crawford on the unwelcome message the NBA’s sending with its team apparel options for female fans: “Men are serious fans who need serious gear that looks like what the athletes wear, and women should worry more about how they look when they show up to the games.”
9th: The Diss. Kevin Draper hears everything that Michele Roberts is saying and wonders what a players’ union with an “actual leader” will really wind up looking like.
10th: USA TODAY Sports. Even the very best sixth men in the league tell Sam Amick that they don’t really like being sixth men.
