Colorado State’s Garrett Grayson is officially a Heisman contender
Could Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson be a Heisman finalist? It’s not as crazy as you may think.
The school said Grayson had been notified in writing by the Heisman Trust that he is a “legitimate contender for the Heisman Trophy.”
“It is a huge honor to even be mentioned with that award,” Grayson said in a school statement. “It is obviously the most prestigious award in college football, and all sports. I’m humbled and very happy, and I know it all comes back to being a part of a winning team. They don’t give that award to players whose teams aren’t winning, so I’m very grateful to be surrounded by the teammates that I have. It is just very humbling.”
Because Grayson was notified he’s a contender, the school now has a page for him at the Heisman website. Player pages are kept up by the player’s school. Grayson is one of 17 players with aspirant pages, though not all of them can be considered legitimate contenders at this point. BYU QB Taysom Hill is out for the season because of injury and Texas A&M QB and Georgia RB Todd Gurley have both been suspended.
Grayson has completed 204-311 passes this year for 3,024 yards, 26 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Colorado State, which is off this weekend, is 9-1 and is in contention for the New Year’s Bowl slot that goes to the highest-ranked non-Power Five conference team in the final College Football Playoff rankings. The Rams finish the season against New Mexico and Air Force, games that the team will not only have to win for New Year’s Bowl possibilities but for Grayson’s Heisman hopes as well.
