General manager Mike Rizzo had plenty of good things to say about Frandsen at the GM Meetings. “He’s a real team-chemistry type of guy,” Rizzo said. “He gives you a grind out at-bat. Collins doesn’t want David Wright pressing to hit HRs at Citi Field
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4:25 pm ET) Mets manager Terry Collins said Thursday he hopes third baseman David Wright doesn’t change his approach at the plate even though the fences are being moved in at Citi Field.
“I just hope guys don’t get caught up in trying to change too much,” Collins said, per NJ.com. “I don’t want to give David Wright a chance to hit home runs. I want David Wright to be a good hitter. As I told him, when he’s swinging a bat good, he’s dangerous. I’ll take some balls off the wall.”
Wright hit just eight home runs in 134 games last season. He has just 46 home runs and a .452 slugging percentage in 399 games at Citi Field since 2009.
Pompey, Pillar will compete for starting job in center for Blue Jays
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4:08 pm ET) With the trade of Anthony Gose, the competition for the starting job in center field this spring for the Blue Jays is between Dalton Pompey and Kevin Pillar. General manager Alex Anthopoulos said Thursday that Pompey has “tremendous upside.”
“The ingredients are there. He can be a complete player. He can be an above-average defender in center, but I still think he needs to tighten up some things, and he’s been doing that in the Fall League,” Anthopoulos said, per Sportsnet.ca. “Continue to get better with his routes, continue to get better with his throwing mechanics and not getting on the side of the ball, getting on top of the ball, because he’s got the arm-strength, and continue to have quality at-bats. That’s what we like about his offensive game. He grinds out at-bats, he’ll work a walk. It’s a quality at-bat each time.”
