THE CHALLENGE SO FAR:
Readers 43-12; sports staff 39-16
All season long, our sports staff will predict winners for five of the week’s college football matchups. We invite you to play along and see if you can beat our staff. We will keep track of the results and bragging rights are up for grabs at the end of the season. Who do you think will come out on top: Coloradoan sports staff or Coloradoan readers?
1. Clemson at Georgia Tech
Two programs clinging to spots in the College Football Playoff Top 25 poll. No. 21 Clemson has won six consecutive games. No. 24 Georgia Tech has won three straight blowouts.
Here’s what the staff is saying:
Our pick: Clemson (4-3 vote)
2. Mississippi State at Alabama
Potential play-in game for Alabama and the College Football Playoff. A victory solidifies the Tide’s spot in the top four, a loss could eliminate it. Winner will be the front-runner to claim the SEC West title.
Here’s what the staff is saying:
Our pick: Alabama (6-1 vote)
3. Auburn at Georgia
Georgia bounced back last week after being upset by rival Florida. Now the Bulldogs hope to spoil Auburn’s chances of playing for a national championship.
Here’s what the staff is saying:
Our pick: Auburn (4-3 vote)
4. Nebraska at Wisconsin
A must-win game for both sides. Records are tied in the Big Ten West with three games to go.
Here’s what the staff is saying:
Our pick: Nebraska (5-2 vote)
5. Nevada at Air Force
Air Force still has an outside shot of claiming a Mountain West Mountain Division title if it can win out and get help from Utah State and Boise State; although, the chances of that happening are unlikely.
Here’s what the staff is saying:
Our pick: Air Force (7-0 vote)
