Carrick is latest injury scare for United
England midfielder Michael Carrick injured his groin in training on Wednesday and will not play in upcoming Euro qualifiers.
Carrick will return to Manchester United after picking up a “minor groin injury” in the first 20 minutes of training, according to the FA. He underwent a scan and, following the results, the decision was taken to withdraw him from the squad.
The 33-year-old missed the start of United’s season with torn ankle ligaments, and only just returned to action having featured in the 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace last weekend. He last played for England in a World Cup qualifier against Poland over a year ago.
England are set to face Slovenia on Saturday in a European qualifier and Scotland next Tuesday in a friendly. However, there is no plan to replace Carrick in the squad.
The news will concern United manager Louis van Gaal, who currently has Marcos Rojo, Rafael, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans recovering on the sidelines, as well as striker Radamel Falcao. Despite the striker recently confirming his return to training, Van Gaal is reluctant to rush any of his players back from injury and could leave Falcao out of the November 22 clash against Arsenal.
