LeBron James does not allow his children to play football
LeBron James grew up playing both basketball and football, before his talent on the court became so undeniable he had to leave his days as a wide receiver behind.
Today, as a father of three, James is aware of the stigma around injuries suffered in football. When asked if he would allow his children to take on a similar path, James balked at the idea of them playing football, as ESPN’s Chris Broussard noted on Twitter.

I was surprised Friday when LeBron told me he doesn’t let his sons play football. Only basketball, baseball & soccer in his house.

James was an all-state wide receiver at St. Vincent St. Mary’s, but dropped the sport as a senior because he was destined for the NBA. It appeared James’ two sons, LeBron Jr. and Bryce, gravitated toward basketball. This house rule explains that narrative on some level, as James has appeared in public with his sons at basketball games but never near the football field.
