Adam Scott wants Rory McIlroy pairing at Australian Open
Adam Scott wants to make good for a lost opportunity to take down Rory McIlroy and win his national title a year ago. At the WGC-HSBC Champions, Scott implored Golf Australia, who organizes the Emirates Australlian Open, to put him with defending champion Rory McIlroy for the first two rounds of the one-third of the Aussie Triple Crown later this month.
“I believe the organisers should take advantage and put Rory and myself together because it does happen occasionally at U.S. Opens where they pair the players according to their rankings,” said the world No. 2 Scott. McIlroy is No. 1 by a country mile.
“It’s not often we have the world’s No. 1 and No. 2 ranked players in the same tournament in Australia and it would be fun to do, and I would certainly enjoy that.”
A year ago, McIlroy birdied the 72nd hole at Royal Sydney Golf Club to defeat Scott, who dropped a shot at the last. Scott, who is still searching for a new full-time caddie after the semi-retirement of Steve Williams, will get his chance at revenge starting Nov. 27.
