The Bobcats never fit in with the NBA. The name didn’t have a nice ring to it, the colors didn’t mesh well, and it didn’t sound good when stating that was your favorite team.
It should come as no surprise that when Charlotte went back to being the Hornets, complete with original color combinations, that everyone started liking them again. The name, jerseys, and court are cool and let’s face it, no one wanted to sport Bobcats gear. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Hornets saw the second-biggest jump in Facebook likes between July 29 and November 3 behind the Cavaliers for obvious reasons.
Although the Lakers didn’t pick up many fans in the offseason they are still the most popular team in terms of total likes. One thing of note is that the 10 percent jump for the Raptors is impressive because this is only counting U.S. likes so they are gaining a lot of fans south of Toronto, we’ll call that the Drake effect and the fact they put up a good fight against the next in the first round of the playoffs last season.
The buzz is definitely back in Charlotte and with Lance Stephenson and Kemba Walker it won’t die down anytime soon.
