Louisville rules No. 1 sacker Mauldin out at BC
Louisville will be without its most productive pass rusher against Boston College as Lorenzo Mauldin has been ruled out for Saturday’s game in Chestnut Hill.
After Thursday’s practice, Bobby Petrino told reporters that Mauldin will be sidelined due to a hamstring injury that has bothered the senior linebacker for several weeks. Mauldin left the game against Florida State in the second quarter after an apparent re-injury but returned after halftime.
Mauldin is a team captain and leads Louisville in sacks (6.5) and tackles for loss (12.0). Louisville’s defense ranks second in the ACC, allowing just 4.37 yards per play and 282 yards per game.
Louisville is just a 3-point favorite on the road against Boston College in what will be its ACC finale for 2014. The Cardinals are bowl eligible but have been eliminated from ACC Atlantic Division title contention with a 4-3 league record. After Boston College, Louisville has a week off then finishes the season at Notre Dame (Nov. 22) and at home against Kentucky (Nov. 29).
