The Houston Rockets look to stay hot tonight as they welcome the San Antonio Spurs to town.
The San Antonio Spurs kicked off the season with a dramatic one-point victory before disappointing in a loss to the Suns on Oct 31. With four full nights to rest, recover and prepare, the Spurs were back at it last night and were able to bust out of the gates early against the Hawks before escaping with a 94-92 win. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker led the scoring with 17 points each, but with the game tied with just 13 seconds left on the clock, the Spurs turned to Manu Ginobili who drew the foul on a drive to the basket and made two clutch free-throws to win the game. Coach Gregg Popovic will be happy to get the win, but certainly not happy with the effort late in the game as the Spurs were up by 17 before taking their foot off the gas and letting the Hawks back in.

Meanwhile, the Rockets have taken full advantage of an easy schedule to start the season, winning all five of their games by double digits. Sure, the first four games were against the worst teams in the league, but you can’t take anything away from the Rockets in their last outing when they beat the Heat by 108-91. Dwight Howard dominated the paint with 26 points and 10 rebounds while James Harden fell one rebound shy of a third career triple-double, but the biggest positive from the win was the Rockets’ defense which held the Heat to 41.9 percent shooting from the field and just 14 points in the fourth quarter. In injury news, Terrence Jones sat out the game with a bruised right leg and is in doubt for tonight’s game.
In ATS trends, the Spurs are 5-1 ATS in their last six games playing on zero days rest and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record, while the Rockets are 6-0 ATS in their last six against the Western Conference and 8-1 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the Rockets have simply dominated, going 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings in Houston and 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
There aren’t many games where I bet against the Spurs at all, but they’re playing on the second night of a back to back set and having fared too well against the Rockets ATS. Just look at the head to head ATS trends and tell me why I shouldn’t take the Rockets at home in their current form.
