Dolphins, Chiefs fans seething over seeing home games shipped overseas
The NFL announced its three-game schedule for London’s Wembley Stadium next year, and let’s just say fans of the two new teams giving up home games aren’t happy about having one less tailgate in 2015.
While the Jacksonville Jaguars, who rank among the league’s lower half in attendance, committed to playing four straight games across the pond as the “home” team from 2013-16, the Dolphins and Chiefs joined the fray this season, and the early reviews from both Miami and Kansas City aren’t exactly glowing.
Miami Herald columnist Armando Salguero ripped the Dolphins organization for giving up not only a home game — but the home half of a divisional series against the New York Jets in Week 4 next season, even though hosting a game in London grants Miami the opportunity to host a Super Bowl before 2020.
Per Salguero:
As one NFL source told me Wednesday, “What it looks like to me is you have a team that would rather be hosting Super Bowls than playing in Super Bowls.”
Meanwhile, in Missouri, where the Chiefs won’t be hosting the Detroit Lions next season because the game’s been moved to London in Week 8, The Kansas City Star’s Pete Grathoff posted a series of comical tweets from fans expressing their frustration over losing a game at Arrowhead Stadium in 2015.
