Orioles, Royals earn most Gold Gloves while six first-timers also get nods
the annual Rawlings Gold Gloves were handed out.
Defensive wizards across MLB were honored Tuesday asThe Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles fetched the most Gold Gloves — three apiece — while six first-timers also earned honors.
The winners list includes names we’re used to seeing, like St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, who won for the seventh time, plus Alex Gordon, Adam Jones, Dustin Pedroia and Adrian Gonzalez, all of whom won their fourth Gold Glove.
The American League was mostly familiar faces, with the exception of Dallas Keuchel and Kyle Seager, while the National League had four first-time winners among its nine honorees: Juan Lagares, DJ LeMahieu, Christian Yelich and Zack Greinke.
All 30 MLB managers and up to six of their coaches vote for the top fielders in the game, though they can’t vote for their own players. The Society for American Baseball Research’s Defensive Index also accounts for 25 percent of the vote.
