Gerald Green dunks the Lakers into submission (Video)
We have experienced just a week of the 2014-15 NBA season and it is already cliched to make fun of the Los Angeles Lakers. This incarnation of the most consistently successful franchise in league history can’t defend, can’t score enough to keep up, and can’t win. Heading into Tuesday night’s home game vs. the Phoenix Suns, the 0-4 Lakers were the West’s only winless team.
The silver lining for neutrals is that this woeful team should allow their opponents to finish off a great number of highlights every night. The high-flying Gerald Green was the biggest beneficiary for Phoenix, coming up with three more fantastic dunks for his lengthy highlight reel.
The first came on a sweet baseball-style alley-oop pass from point guard Isaiah Thomas:
While the second occurred early in the fourth quarter as Green climbed over Lakers big man Jordan Hill:
And the third took place a few minutes later on a breakaway:
The Lakers are now 0-5 for the first team since the 1957-58 season, three years before the team even moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles. The franchise can take some solace in knowing that their 112-106 loss is now the narrowest of their five losses this campaign. They will also have a lot of time to prepare for their next opponent — they don’t play again until the Charlotte Hornets visit Staples Center on Sunday night. Perhaps that long lay-off is exactly what the team needs to grab that first win.
