Jets fans raise $10,000 for ‘Fire John Idzik’ billboard, website
Look, mocking Jets fans is both easy AND fun, but at some point, if you have a soul, it becomes just kind of sad. The team is now 1-8, going more than two months without a win. Since you’re more qualified to play quarterback than anyone they’ve got, and you’d be a terrible quarterback, the Jets are in real trouble.
A group of Jets fans has decided that something must be done, and these Jets fans, having had plenty of time to assess this trash fire of a team, aren’t just content with the typical “fire the coach” angle. No, they’re contending that the entire foundation of this team rots, and thus they’re setting their sights a bit higher up the organizational ladder. Thus: “FireJohnIdzik.com,” a website and campaign dedicated to ending the employment of the Jets’ general manager.

There’s an angry Jets fan out there with some web-design skills, because FireJohnIdzik.com features a scrolling parade of Idzik’s failures in both the draft and the free-agent market. (Sample stats: “2014 by the numbers: 12 draft picks, 4 on roster, $21 million under the salary cap.”)
The group has also raised $10,000 to place a billboard calling for Idzik’s job in a visible location near MetLife Stadium. Support for the billboard came from all over the country:
“Our billboard will be up from late November until the beginning of 2015,” the group said in a press release. “To further spread our message, supporters of our cause will be outfitted in ‘Fire John Idzik’ T-shirts across the country and inside of the stadium. Let this be a clear message to [owner] Woody Johnson that Jets fans will no longer tolerate incompetence from our leaders.”
And, lest this effort get written off as nothing but a bunch of angry cranks looking to profit on Jets fans’ misery, the site promises that $5 of every t-shirt sold will go to the charity established for Leah Still, daughter of the Browns’ Devon Still. Who knows? Maybe if you give enough, the Jets will let you suit up for a few plays. Things couldn’t go any worse, right?
