Call of Duty drops, and no one is more excited than Eric Ebron
When rookie Eric Ebron signed with the Detroit Lions this spring, there were a lot of things to learn. Football was first on his mind, but as he adjusted to the new locker room, he was also paying close attention to something else: Were there any other “Call of Duty” nerds around?
He usually just listened quietly when teammates started talking about the game. On the rare occassions he joined the conversation, he tells Yahoo Sports, he lost most of them quickly.
“I’m a nerd,” he said. “I take it really seriously.” So seriously that he plays only with guys he deems worthy, which usually means family and old friends.

The rookie tight end started playing as a sophomore in high school, around the time “Call of Duty 3” came out. The hobby quickly snowballed into an obsession, taking up four or five hours a day throughout college. He admits he’s had to scale it back since signing with the Lions, but couldn’t wait to get his hands on “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.” The game drops Tuesday, but Ebron got to test it out a few days early, just in time for the Lions bye week.
The latest edition is set in a futuristic version of Seoul, South Korea, and looks more like a big-budget action flick than ever. One of the highlights is the superhuman exoskeleton that lets players run faster and jump higher – something Ebron says he’d love to wear one on the field.

Drones, hovercraft, magnetized gloves and boots, walking tanks, and intelligent grenades (they seek out enemies on their own) are just a few of the other features.
Ebron says his coaches never need to worry about him getting in trouble in his free time. If anything, they just need to worry about his hustling out of practice so he can get home and play.
