Chip Kelly mum on status of Nick Foles and his injured left shoulder
The Philadelphia Eagles’ Nick Foles suffered a left shoulder injury after being sacked on the final play of the first quarter against the Houston Texans, but his status remains unknown.
Head coach Chip Kelly did not give a definitive update on the health of Foles, who did not return to the game, a 31-21 Eagles victory.
Mark Sanchez replaced Foles and completed 15-of-22 passes for 202 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Foles was seen wearing a sling in the Eagles’ locker room, and reports have surfaced that Foles suffered a broken clavicle. Depending on the severity of the break, it could mean that he’s out for 4-8 weeks.
That almost certainly means that Sanchez will be the Eagles’ starter going forward. The Eagles’ next four games: vs. Carolina Panthers, at Green Bay Packers, vs. Tennessee Titans, at Dallas Cowboys.
Quarterback injuries have plagued the NFC East. Tony Romo suffered a back injury in Week 8, and backup Brandon Weeden struggled in the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 9 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The Washington Redskins have started three quarterbacks this season, with Robert Griffin III just returning to the lineup with a loss Sunday.
It appears that the Eagles’ signing of Sanchez was a smart move. Although he threw two picks Sunday, Sanchez was solid against the Texans — his first regular-season action since Week 17 of the 2012 season with the New York Jets.
