Before Week 9 of the 2014 NFL season kicks off, I thought we would have some fun by taking a look at the spreads for this week’s round of games. (Click here for NFL Week 9 picks without regard to the spread.)

Here are my suggestions when trying to beat Vegas. You can find all of today’s NFL betting lines and more at the SB Nation odds page. My record so far this season: 47-61-2. (Last week’s picks.)

Vegas kicked my butt last week again. I finished at 5-9 again. Not good.

NFL WEEK 9

Philadelphia Eagles (-2) at Houston Texans: The Eagles are coming off a road loss and will have to travel out west again to Houston this week. Starting center Jason Kelce and running back Darren Sproles are both (likely) returning from injury so that should be a big boost for the Birds. The Eagles should be able to keep Arian Foster in check and come out on top. I like Philly here. Pick: Eagles -2

Arizona Cardinals at Dallas Cowboys (-4): This line seems a little generous to Dallas. The Cowboys are coming off of a home loss to Colt McCoy and the lowly Washington team. Tony Romo hasn’t practiced all week and it’s unclear if he’ll play. Even if he goes, he’ll be dealing with pain. Arizona has a good run defense and Dallas is playing on short rest. The points are an easy pick. Pick: Cardinals +4

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Cleveland Browns (-7): The Bucs are thoroughly terrible and the Browns have home-field advantage. It would be too hard to rely on Tampa. Pick: Browns -7

Washington Redskins at Minnesota Vikings (-1): RG3 is back for Washington. D.C. showed a lot of fight in their win over Dallas. I still like the home team here, though. Pick: Vikings -1

Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals (-11): Never bet against the Bengals at home. The Cincy defense should have their way with rookie quarterback Blake Bortles. Pick: Bengals -11

San Diego Chargers at Miami Dolphins (-1): The Phins don’t have much of a home-field advantage and the Bolts are the better team despite coming off a two-game losing streak. I don’t see the Super Chargers dropping three straight. Pick: Chargers +1

New York Jets at Kansas City Chiefs (-10): Michael Vick will get the start for New York against the Chiefs in Kansas City. Andy Reid’s defense held his former quarterback to a limited performance last year in Philadelphia, and it could easily go that way again this year. New York just doesn’t look very good and KC has been solid lately. Especially at home. Pick: Chiefs -10

St. Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers (-10): The Rams typically play their NFC West opponents tough but they’ll be on the road here and San Francisco is coming off their bye week. The home favorites make too much sense. Pick: 49ers -10

Oakland Raiders at Seattle Seahawks (-15): This is a fun play. The Raiders are the worst team in the NFL (0-7) and they’re on the road here but I can’t shake the feeling they’ll cover this one somehow. The Seattle offense has struggled lately and 15 points is a lot. Pick: Raiders +15

Denver Broncos (-3.5) at New England Patriots: Not too often you see the Patriots as home underdogs like this. New England is typically very good at home. I don’t care if the Broncos are red hot, I’ll be bold and take the Patriots outright. Pick: Patriots +3.5

Baltimore Ravens (-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers: The Steelers are looking real good after absolutely drubbing Indy at home due to a historical performance from Ben Roethlisberger. Still, I’m not very high on the Steelers, and I think the Baltimore is the better team. Pick: Ravens -1

Indianapolis Colts (-3.5) at New York Giants: A little surprised to see the Colts favored this highly because they’re coming off a bad road loss and the Giants are coming off of their bye week. I’d be a little tempted to take New York at +3.5 here but not when I look back to how they played in their 27-0 loss to Philadelphia. Pick: Colts -3.5
