In the second period, Burrows delivered a high blow to Emelin after the latter had turned the puck over, leading to the Canucks’ opening goal. While the hit looked bad and stunned Emelin, he did return to the game. Burrows was not penalized on the play.
The hit looks pretty late as the puck has already been turned over by the time Burrows makes contact with Emelin, and the hit is definitely high as well. It’s also clear Emelin is in a vulnerable position after getting rid of the puck.
But again, Emelin did return to the game. Burrows also has never been suspended despite a checked history. Both of those play into the possibility of Burrows avoiding a suspension.
We’ll see where the NHL wheel of justice lands on this incident.
