Newcastle draw Spurs after City win
Newcastle have been handed an away quarter-final with Tottenham after knocking holders Manchester City out of the League Cup on Wednesday.
Rolando Aarons and Moussa Sissoko were on target as the Magpies earned a famous 2-0 win at the Etihad, while City will be sweating on David Silva’s fitness ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby after he limped out of the tie in the eighth minute.
Spurs earned their place in the last eight with a 2-0 victory over Brighton at White Hart Lane.
Bournemouth have been rewarded for their 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday with a home tie against Liverpool, who beat Swansea by the same scoreline. Brendan Rodgers’ side travelled to Dean Court in the FA Cup last season, where they won 2-0.
Two other teams who met in last season’s FA Cup, Derby and Chelsea, will also go head-to-head in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Derby thrashed Fulham 5-2 on Tuesday while Chelsea scraped past Shrewsbury 2-1. Chelsea won 2-0 in last year’s visit to Pride Park.
Southampton’s 3-2 win over Stoke has earned them a trip to Sheffield United, who beat Milton Keynes 2-1 on Tuesday.
Quarter final draw
Bournemouth v Liverpool
Derby v Chelsea
Sheffield United v Southampton
Tottenham v Newcastle United
