The Knicks get set to host the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night, and in the Central division, there isn’t a much better way to open things up.
Knicks head coach Phil Jackson has stated that this team should be a contender this season. Well, they’re not. The Knicks are going to be interesting to follow from a betting perspective however. The Knicks have some talent on their roster, the big thing to watch will be how long it takes this group to grasp Jackson’s triangle offense. It has been talked about extensively already, but Carmelo isn’t exactly known as a “team player” and in this offense that is an absolute must. If Anthony can learn to share the ball a bit, the Knicks could be a tricky team, but until I see it on a continual basis on the floor, I’m more than skeptical.

The Chicago Bulls are once again one of the favorites coming out of the East. I say once again, as some had the Bulls in this spot last season, as Rose was healthy and on the roster. Well, here we go again. The Bulls have talent all over the floor with Rose, Gasol, Nah and others. SOmeone I’m interested to watch this season is the play of McDermott, the rookie from Creighton. McDermott was a beast at Creighton, and it will be interesting to see how his skills transition to the NBA at regulation pace. As long as Rose stays healthy, the Bulls should be solid this season, and a tough out for anyone.
Every power ranking in the world (including mine) says that the Bulls should destroy the Knicks, and by all rights Chicago should. The Bulls have more talent, they have a renewed excitement around the team, and the Knicks are learning a new offense with key members that don’t historically fit that style of play. Yet, I’m on the Knicks here. This is a spot where you have Jackson coaching against Chicago, in the Knicks home opener as the underdog. The Knicks are outgunned, but New York has some playmakers, and if anyone will have his guys ready for opening tip, it will be Phil. Just hard to bet against him in this spot.
