Horse racing-Prime spot for Shared Belief in Classic (Reuters)
By Mark Lamport-Stokes LOS ANGELES, Oct 28 (Reuters) – Shared Belief is ideally placed to land Horse of the Year honours after being installed as favourite to win Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic, the showpiece in the two-day racing carnival at Santa Anita Park. The much vaunted 3-year-old has a perfect career record of seven wins from seven races and has been in a class of his own since missing the 2014 Triple Crown season due to lingering foot issues. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer and with veteran jockey Mike Smith in the saddle, Shared Belief has been elevated to the 9-5 favourite for the $5 million feature event at iconic Santa Anita with its picturesque backdrop of the San Gabriel Mountains. California Chrome, who won the first two legs of the Triple Crown this year, is the second choice at 4-1 with Belmont Stakes winner Tonalist at 5-1.
