One-Week Fantasy: FanDuel 2.5 Million Tournament

Welcome to Week 8 everybody! Time flies when you are playing fake football. Besides the impending feeling of doom (i.e the fantasy season being over), I’m still happy to have over half a season left of FanDuel to play. When Week 16 wraps up and all our season-long leagues are over with, we’ll still have daily fantasy! So don’t forget to look at the bright side people! Oh, here’s my team for this Sunday’s 2.5 million dollar tourney. Don’t use it because I don’t want to share any of the money!

QB Aaron Rodgers $10,000 GB@NO
I don’t think you’ll find a better situation for Rodgers the rest of the season, so I’m trying to get him in as many lineups as I can, be they tournaments or cash games. We know how good Drew Brees is at home, and even though he hasn’t been his unstoppable self this year, he is still producing better in the dome as usual. That’s important for Rodgers, who has been blowing out teams quickly and letting off the gas. That will be more difficult in New Orleans. Besides being a competitive game, the Saints’ poor pass defense has given up 277.5 passing yards per game, have only had nine sacks, rank 30th and 31st against the pass according to Football Outsiders and Pro Football Focus and just aren’t getting the job done. And you know what Aaron Rodgers can and is doing this season. Over the last four games he has 13 touchdown passes to no interceptions.
RB Justin Forsett $6,700 BAL@CIN
Forsett’s main concern is goal line carries, and that brings his price down a bit, but for tournaments I gravitate toward the dynamic players who get touches, but not goal line carries. For a nice price you can have Forsett, who has been playing great football, against the Bengals who have been getting gashed by opposing running backs, with the most recent coming from the Colts trio of Trent Richardson, Dan Herron and Ahmad Bradshaw who combined for 29 carries for 166 yards and a touchdown and seven receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown. Bradshaw found the end zone twice in that game and Forsett has a similar game as Bradshaw, but is averaging 16.5 looks per game on the season (two more than Bradshaw), while seeing 23 rushing attempts last week. And now with Owen Daniels out, there’s a good chance he’ll see more receiving targets than he has lately. I like him in all formats this week for his price.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw $7,000 IND@PIT
And here’s Mr. Bradshaw who just scored two touchdowns on the Bengals and now gets the Steelers. This would be a good matchup regardless Trent Richardson’s status for this week, but it becomes a great matchup now that he is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury. The Colts lead the league in plays run inside the opponent’s red zone and Bradshaw and Richardson are ranked sixth and seventh in looks inside the red zone per game with 3.43 and 3, but with Richardson looking unlikely to go, that gives Bradshaw a big boost in touches from his 14 per game to most likely 20+. For his price and a matchup with the Steelers who give up 4.6 yards per carry and 102.4 yards per game to running backs, that feels like a safe play.
WR Sammy Watkins $7,300 BUF@NYJ
So we saw Sammy Watkins go off last week and now I’ll be doubling down on Mr. Watkins, as his price is still good, along with his matchup and his abilities and his target rate. Watkins has now played three games with Kyle Orton and if you take out his matchup with Darrelle Revis, which I will, he is averaging 13 targets, 8 receptions, 104.5 yards and a touchdown per game with Orton at the helm. The Jets pass defense has been below average this season and with Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller out I could see Watkins being leaned on.
WR Michael Floyd $6,500 PHI@ARI
With Philly coming off a bye I think this game in the desert is going to be competitive and Carson Palmer will need to throw the ball early and often to Floyd. The Eagles have been burned by wide receivers this season for 14 receptions and 182 yards per game and Floyd is the upside play between Larry Fitzgerald and himself.
WR Davante Adams $5,400 GB@NO
Adams was pretty lucky last week to get a touchdown on his one reception, so I understand being cautious here, but the good news is that the Saints are actually favored in this game and if Rodgers only throws it 22 times like last week I’d be extremely surprised. I’m expecting at the very least a 30 pass game with 40s in the realm of possibility. That should get Adams more involved in a good matchup.
TE Rob Gronkowski $7,200 CHI@NE
The Bears have given up three touchdowns to tight ends in the last three weeks and we also saw Levine Toilolo drop many a pass in Week 6 against them. Gronk leads all tight ends in targets and yards over the last three weeks and shouldn’t have much trouble getting us some fantasy points in Foxboro.
K Shayne Graham $4,800 GB@NO
This game has the highest over/under of the day and the Saints are favored. As long as the game is relatively close, Graham should have opportunities.
D Houston Texans $5,100 HOU@TEN
This is my upside defense of the week with J.J. Watt taking on rookie Zach Mettenberger. The Texans look like they’ll also get Jadeveon Clowney back for this one and if he is a full go, watch out.
