Suarez will make Barcelona debut against Real Madrid
The ESPN FC panel discuss Luis Suarez’s role during El Clasico
Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has confirmed that Luis Suarez will feature in Saturday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid, which will be the striker’s first competitive appearance since the World Cup.
Suarez joined Barcelona from Liverpool in an £75 million deal in the summer, but has been unable to play competitive games because of the four-month ban imposed after he bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini while playing for Uruguay in Brazil.
Enrique told a news conference on Friday that Suarez “will play some role in tomorrow’s game” – although he would not say that meant a starting spot alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar in Barca’s attack.
“[Suarez] will have some minutes for sure, how many I cannot say,” Enrique said. “It is a big thing for him, to join up finally with the team, and get some minutes.”
The 27-year-old has scored on his debut for all his European clubs – Gronigen, Ajax and Liverpool – and also returned from a long injury absence with two goals in a match-winning performance for Uruguay against England at the World Cup.
Enrique said that the ability to make an impression after so much time out depended a lot on the personality of the player involved.
“Each case is totally different, depends on the profile of the player,” he said. “It depends a lot on the personality of each player.”
