The Cheat $heet: Best and worst QB values on DraftKings for Week 8
Here are my best values, worst values, players who are worth their high price, and Hail Mary plays for DraftKings this week at the QB position.
Best values
Alex Smith ($6,000) – Smith isn’t exactly your ideal fantasy quarterback. In four of his six starts this season he has one touchdown or less and he’s only eclipsed 250 yards once.
The reason I like Smith this week is because of his matchup against the Rams. St. Louis has allowed multiple touchdown passes in four consecutive games and over 300 passing yards in back-to-back games.
The Rams have also allowed the third-most rushing yards to QBs this season and Smith isn’t afraid to take off and run. He has at least five rushing attempts in three games this season. It’s an easy way to pick up points as a quarterback.
Teddy Bridgewater ($5,100) – Bridgewater hasn’t been very good over his last two games. He’s averaging just 172 yards and has a 1-5 TD-INT ratio. It’s a far fall from his 300-yard rookie debut in Week 4, but he may be able to reach that mark again this week.
He’ll go against a Tampa Bay defense that has allowed over 300 passing yards to quarterbacks in four consecutive games. They’ve also allowed 13 touchdowns in that span. Quarterbacks don’t get much cheaper than this on DraftKings.
Worst values
Jay Cutler ($7,000) – Cutler has the ninth highest salary at QB this week and that’s too rich for what how he’s been playing lately. He’s had just one touchdown pass in back-to-back games. He’s also thrown five interceptions in his last four games.
This week he faces a tough New England secondary. The Patriots haven’t allowed a 300-yard passer all year long. In order for Cutler to be a top-nine option, he’ll likely have to reach or come close to that mark. I don’t see it happening.
Drew Brees ($8,100) – It’s difficult to bet against Brees. After all he’s thrown for over 340 yards in each of his last three games. He even had success against a tough Lions defense last week.
Even though he’s proven himself against tough defenses, I still have a hard time trusting him against Green Bay in Week 8. The Packers haven’t allowed a 300-yard passer all season despite allowing an average of 34 pass attempts per game. They also have forced more interceptions (10) than touchdowns allowed (9) this season.
Pricey, but worth it
Russell Wilson ($8,400) – Wilson proved in Week 7 he could get things done without Percy Harvin. He relied on other targets as he compiled over 400 total yards of offense (106 rushing, 313 passing) and scored three touchdowns. Look for his success to carry over into this week as he takes on the Carolina Panthers.
The Panthers have allowed opposing quarterbacks to finish in the top 12 at their position over the last four weeks (including three top five performances). A favorable matchup for a talented quarterback should lead to big stats.
Aaron Rodgers ($9,000) & Andrew Luck ($8,800) – Over the last four games Rodgers has a 13-0 TD-INT ratio (at least three touchdowns in every game). Over the season Luck only has one game below 300 passing yards (he still scored three touchdowns). These guys are consistently amazing and should be again this week.
Hail Mary plays
Derek Carr ($5,200) – Carr is hit or miss on big games. In Week 6 he threw four touchdowns. In Week 7 he didn’t score once and threw a measly 173 yards. He’ll get a favorable matchup this week and could be on his way for a big game.
Andy Dalton ($5,600) – Dalton comes fairly cheap this week and could be a good play if his star wideout A.J. Green returns to the field. He’ll face a Ravens team that doesn’t allow many touchdowns, but is ninth in allowing the most yards per game. This Hail Mary play is contingent on Green being active.
Zach Mettenberger ($5,000) – Mettenberger’s $5,000 price tag is the lowest DraftKings will go. It was reported Wednesday the Titans plan to start him against the Texans. If you feel like gambling on the rookie’s debut go right ahead.
