Memorabilia shop owner: No contact from FSU
The number of Jameis Winston autographed items authenticated by James Spence Authentication keeps growing. It was originally reported that the company had authenticated over 900 signatures from the Heisman Trophy winner, but on Thursday ESPN.com reported that the number is over 2,000.
But what truly stands out about this latest report is what James Spence had to say about the contact between his company and Florida State.
It was reported earlier this week that Florida State was looking into whether Winston had received payment for any of the autographs authenticated by Spence’s company, but according to Spence, the school had not contacted him or his company as of Thursday afternoon.
You would think that if Florida State was conducting an investigation into the items Spence had authenticated, he’d be one of the first people it contacted.
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher told reporters Tuesday that Winston has “never taken a dime for anything.”
“He’s signed thousands of things. I mean, the guy sits for an hour and a half before a baseball game and signed and an hour and a half after a baseball game — I mean, there are thousands of things out there with his name on it,” said Fisher. “He is very accommodating to people.”
