Banister, 49, had one big league at-bat (and one hit) for the Pirates in 1991. He spent 29 years in the Pittsburgh organization as a player, coach and minor-league manager. He had been the Pirates bench coach since 2010.
He beats out Rangers bench boach Tim Bogar and Indians bullpen coach Kevin Cash, the other finalists.
