THE CHALLENGE SO FAR: Readers 26-9, sports staff 23-12.
All season long, our sports staff will predict winners for five of the week’s college football matchups. We invite you to play along and see if you can beat our staff. We will keep track of the results and bragging rights are up for grabs at the end of the season. Who do you think will come out on top: Coloradoan sports staff or Coloradoan readers?
1. Utah State at CSU
Colorado State University opened as a 4 1/2 favorite and has won four games in a row. The Aggies are riding a two-game winning streak, which includes knocking off Brigham Young on the road and have been without Heisman-hopeful quarterback Chuckie Keeton in both of their latest wins. Utah State shutout CSU last season.

2. Notre Dame at Florida State

Our pick: Florida State
3. Stanford at Arizona State
The Sun Devils are feeling good about themselves after winning at Southern California two weeks ago and having last week off to rest. Stanford lost to USC at home this season.

Our pick: Stanford
4. Oklahoma State at TCU
TCU blew a 21-point fourth-quarter lead at rival Baylor last week, dropping the Horned Frogs out of the top 10. It doesn’t get much easier as they now have to host No. 15 Oklahoma State. The Cowboys needed a late kickoff return for a touchdown to squeak by Kansas last week.
Here’s what the staff is saying:
Our pick: TCU
5. Nebraska at Northwestern
Northwestern has turned a few heads with wins over Wisconsin and Penn State, but Nebraska will be hungry after a week off following its only loss of the season at Michigan State.

Our pick: Nebraska
